Meem Sakinah rules
A Meem with sukoon (مْ) follows one of three rules, all named Shafawi because the Meem is made with the lips.
| Rule | Letter | How it is read |
|---|---|---|
| Ikhfa Shafawi | ب | Hide the Meem with a 2-count Ghunnah, lips lightly touching |
| Idgham Shafawi (Mithlain) | م | Merge the two Meems with a 2-count Ghunnah |
| Izhar Shafawi | All remaining 26 letters | Pronounce the Meem clearly with no Ghunnah |
